The Superior Labor Court ordered that postal workers maintain 80% of their workforce during the strike that began last Tuesday (16). The measure was taken by minister Kátia Magalhães Arruda.
If the decision is not complied with, a daily fine of R$100,000 will be applied per union. Correios employees are asking for a new collective work agreement, salary adjustment and solutions to the state-owned company’s financial crisis. The strike takes place in Ceará, Paraíba, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.
This week, the National Treasury approved a loan of up to R$12 billion to Correios. The value is lower than the loan of R$20 billion, denied by the Treasury at the beginning of the month. The money will be used for the economic and financial restructuring of the state-owned company.
