This year, it seems Miranda Priestly‘s assistants, old and new, went to the 2026 Met Gala, but the Runway editor-in-chief was a no-show.
Though the iconic Meryl Streep wasn’t in attendance at fashion‘s biggest night on Monday (she’s been invited many times over the years but had always declined, as it’s “never quite been her scene,” her rep previously said), The Devil Wears Prada 2 stars Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, aka “the Emilys,” came out in full force. Miranda’s new first assistant in the newly released sequel — Simone Ashley, who plays Amari — also made an appearance.
Hathaway and Blunt were also joined on the Met Gala carpet by their co-star and longtime friend, Stanley Tucci, who plays the beloved Nigel, opposite their characters, Andy and Emily, respectively, in the 2006 film and 2026 sequel.
Celebrating this year’s theme, “Costume Art,” Hathaway wore a hand-painted black-and-white Michael Kors gown, paired with Bvlgari jewelry. While chatting with Vogue, the Oscar winner was asked how she’s navigating a “whirlwind” of a year with so many film releases. “My thing about it is, like when you get a little bit tired, I’m like, ‘Do you like the reason that you’re tired?’ And I appreciate it because I’m sure some people don’t love the reason that they’re tired,” she replied. “And I’m really into the reason that I’m tired. And it’s not going to be this way forever, so I don’t want to miss it. And I’ll sleep eventually.”
As for Blunt, she sported a black corset top and slacks by Ashi Studio, with a half-million-dollar pearl necklace by Mikimoto. And Tucci, who attended with his wife and Emily’s sister, Felicity Blunt, walked the carpet in a custom dark green velvet tuxedo by Etro, paired with a Breitling Premier B01 Chronograph 42 watch.
Though Ashley isn’t part of the original Devil Wears Prada gang, she still made an impression not only in the sequel but also on the steps of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday. The Bridgerton star wore a Stella McCartney gown, draped in silver chains.

Though Streep’s presence was missed on Monday night, her family was still represented on the Met carpet, with her 39-year-old daughter, Grace Gummer, in attendance. The Love Story actress stunned in a mermaid-style gold metallic Gabriela Hearst gown.

Releasing two decades after the original film became a cult classic, The Devil Wears Prada 2 strutted to a strong opening weekend at the box office, grossing more than $233 million globally. The majority of the cast returned for the sequel, directed by returning filmmaker David Frankel. The pic sees Andy reunite with Miranda Priestly as they navigate their careers amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing.
One of the opening scenes of the film also features a distinctly Met Gala-like affair, with Streep and Tucci’s characters walking up the famous Met steps, draped in carpet, as photographers and journalists snap photos from the sides.
The dress code for the 2026 Met Gala was “Fashion Is Art,” while this year’s exhibition, “Costume Art,” examined “the centrality of the dressed body throughout time and culture, juxtaposing garments and works of art from across the Museum’s vast collection to create pairings that highlight the indivisible connection between clothing and the body,” according to the official descriptions.
Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Anna Wintour served as this year’s co-chairs, while Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos were the honorary chairs.
