Between Ford and Chevrolet battling it out on the Nürburgring, Porsche slipped in for a run. The automaker recently took the 911 GT3 RS with the new Manthey Kit to the Nordschleife, and it recorded a stunning lap time.
The 911 GT3 RS lapped the track in 6 minutes and 45.389 seconds, with Jörg Bergmeister behind the wheel. That is quicker than the Corvette ZR1X but slower than the Ford Mustang GTD Competition, which just set a time of 6 minutes and 40.835 seconds.
It was also quicker than the standard 911 GT3, which set a time of 6 minutes and 49.328 seconds.
The kit from Manthey, the Porsche-owned, Nürburgring-based racing firm, includes a host of aerodynamic and suspension upgrades. There is a big wing, roof fins, a larger front splitter, dive planes, and larger rear diffuser strakes.

According to Porsche, the tweaks increase downforce by 20 percent, with the car generating 2,200 pounds at 177 miles per hour. Underneath, the kit adds new coilovers with stiffer springs, adaptive dampers, and braided brake lines.
The kit isn’t cheap, with a $116,160 price tag on top of the GT3 RS’s $244,995 starting price.
Motor1’s Take: We are living in an interesting era where the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Corvette are battling Porsche for the quickest Nürburgring lap times. They might be pointless, but this is fun to watch.
