Colin Jost is sharing wife Scarlett Johansson‘s exact reaction to him buying the retired Staten Island Ferry with Pete Davidson.
While appearing on the upcoming May 4th episode of the Smartless podcast, the 43-year-old SNL actor and comedian revealed his wife’s text after he told her about the purchase.
Colin shared that he first texted his dad.
“He literally was like, ‘Did you do your homework?’ Which is such a teacher thing to say,” the Weekend Update co-anchor said. “I was like, ‘Dad, I’m just sort of texting you as a formality. I already bought the boat.’”
His second text was to Scarlett.
“‘Guess what? We own a ferry now,’” Colin recalled of what he texted her. “And she was like, ‘We?’”
On the podcast, Colin reiterated that he thought about the purchase “in a real estate way.”
“If you put that on a dock in Manhattan, you’ve suddenly got basically a building on the waterfront,” he said.
He also pushed back on talk of it being a “money pit.”
“It’s very misreported that it is some sort of crazy money pit,” he said, noting they’ve hosted events and recouped much of what they paid.
What’s next for the ferry?
“A home run for me is its a thing that could be used for an event space but also has an every-day purpose,” Colin shared. “Two versions of it to me are, it could be an operating entertainment club, a place where you can go and have parties or there’s regular parties on it. And then… I could imagine creating a place like a [swim club] that’s not like a weird, fancy member’s club, but is actually more middle-class, Manhattan swim club.”
If you missed, last week Scarlett was seen filming her upcoming new Exorcist movie, while Colin is soon set to return as host for Pop Culture Jeopardy! on Netflix. Watch the trailer here!
