Britney Spears has officially been charged with DUI after her March 4 arrest and she has the opportunity to avoid jail time.
Ahead of her arraignment on May 4, which she is not required to attend, the Ventura County District Attorney’s office has revealed details about the case.
Britney will be offered a “wet reckless” plea deal that will allow her to avoid jail time, if she agrees to plead guilty. She’s being offered this opportunity because she doesn’t have a history of DUIs, she had a low blood alcohol level, and there were no injuries or crashes involved in her arrest.
What’s a “wet reckless” plea deal?
People reports that a “wet reckless allows a person to plead guilty to reckless driving involving alcohol and/or drugs and be put on probation for 12 months while receiving credit for any time spent in custody.”
After she was arrested in March, Britney‘s rep released a statement saying that she will be seeking help and it was later revealed that she voluntarily checked herself into rehab.
Britney‘s sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, have reportedly been a big part of her support system in recent months. It has also been reported that they’ve dropped “Federline” from their names and will now use “Spears” instead.
