Israel warns US envoy not to trust Iran’s promises

Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, warned this Tuesday (3) the White House’s special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, not to trust “Iran’s promises”, before the American representative met with officials from the Iranian regime in Turkey.

According to a statement released by Netanyahu’s office, the Israeli leader stated that Tehran “has repeatedly demonstrated that its promises cannot be trusted”, in reference to the planned negotiations between the United States and Iran, related to Tehran’s nuclear program.

According to information released by Iranian authorities, Tehran and Washington are expected to resume negotiations on a nuclear agreement on Friday (6), in Istanbul, amid the increase in the American military presence against the Islamic regime.

According to diplomatic sources, at the meeting in Türkiye, the American delegation will be led by Witkoff, while Iran will be represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Authorities from Türkiye, Qatar, Egypt, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are expected to participate in the meeting.

Witkoff arrived this Tuesday at Ben Gurion international airport, on the outskirts of Tel Aviv and met with Netanyahu in a meeting that was also attended by the chief of staff of the Israel Defense Forces, Eyal Zamir, and the director of the Israeli foreign intelligence service, the Mossad, David Barnea.
