Former US Secretary of State and former First Lady Hillary Clinton denied this Thursday (26) before a Congressional committee that she had prior knowledge of the crimes committed by convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein and his former partner, Ghislaine Maxwell, with whom the deponent met several times at Clinton Foundation events.
The testimony was recorded behind closed doors in New York before the House of Representatives Oversight Committee. Hillary later spoke out on social media: “I had no idea about his criminal activities. I don’t remember having any contact with Mr. Epstein,” she claimed.
“I have never flown on your plane, nor have I visited your island, your homes or your offices. I have nothing to add,” he continued.
She and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, agreed to testify after coming under pressure from the Oversight Committee and its chairman, Republican Representative James Comer, who threatened to charge them with criminal contempt of Congress.
The former first lady took advantage of the moment to make accusations against President Donald Trump. She stated that the committee, controlled by Republicans, uses its summons to “divert attention” and “cover up” the activities of the president, who maintained a certain closeness to Epstein. Her husband, former president Bill Clinton, is expected to testify this Friday (26).
Clinton described the Epstein case as “a scandal” that deserves “a full investigation” but denounced the committee for not subpoenaing the parties actually involved. She then called for Trump to be summoned to testify under oath.
“Instead, you asked me to testify, knowing that I have no knowledge that could be useful to the investigation, with the aim of diverting attention from President Trump’s activities and covering him up, despite the legitimate demand for answers,” she told lawmakers.
Bill Clinton acknowledges taking several trips in the early 2000s on Epstein’s private plane, but denies any knowledge of the late sex offender’s crimes.
Among the files released by the US Department of Justice involving the former Democratic president are photographs of him in a hot tub next to a person described by authorities as a victim of Epstein’s sexual abuse scheme. Despite the revelations, there are no formal charges against him so far.
Hillary Clinton, in turn, claims that she did not know Epstein, but admits to having met his accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell, sentenced to 20 years in prison, on several occasions at social events.
