The result of the election was announced on December 24th and indicated the victory of the conservative candidate Nasry Asfura, from the National Party. According to the newspaper El Heraldo, deputy Gladis Aurora López, also from the National Party, was hit as she tried to enter the Legislative building. Images show that she had stopped to talk to journalists when the explosion occurred. After the attack, the deputy reported intense pain, dizziness, hearing problems and difficulty seeing, according to the newspaper La Prensa. National Party leaders said López suffered burns and was taken to a hospital. The president of the National Congress, Luis Redondo, condemned the episode and ordered the opening of an investigation. According to him, images from security cameras and records from the emergency system will be analyzed to identify the person responsible.
