Video shows fight between ICE and Alex Pretti, a week before the nurse was killed The United States Department of Justice has opened a federal civil rights investigation into the death of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old nurse, a Minneapolis resident who was killed on Saturday (24) by immigration service agents, federal authorities said. “We are analyzing everything that could shed light on that day,” said Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche this Friday (30). The announcement came after confirmation by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that the FBI will now lead the investigation into Pretti’s death. His department had previously said that the Homeland Security Investigations unit would be responsible for the investigation. A video released Thursday shows Pretti in an altercation with members of ICE 11 days before his death. The fight occurred on January 13 during a protest by the population of Minneapolis against the widespread anti-immigration operation carried out in the city at the behest of US President Donald Trump. Pretti was thrown to the ground by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents after kicking the taillight of a vehicle they were in. MORE Another seven officers get out of the vehicle, form a cordon between themselves and the screaming crowd and launch tear gas bombs. After a few seconds, the nurse managed to free himself from the fight and return to the protesting crowd. Trump shared on his social media another video about the same incident, recorded from another angle, which shows the moment Pretti kicked the car’s light, and an ironic caption, calling him an “agitator”. Trump says Pretti’s reputation has fallen dramatically with the new images. “Agitator and, perhaps, insurgent,” wrote the US president. He also says that “it was a demonstration of abuse and anger, for everyone to see, an act of madness and lack of control.”
