President Donald Trump announced this Wednesday (7) that Venezuela will use the revenue obtained from the sale of oil in the agreement with Washington to exclusively purchase products manufactured in the United States. The statement was made in a publication on the Truth Social platform, in which the republican stated that Caracas will now have the USA as its main trading partner.
According to Trump, the resources from the oil agreement will be used by Venezuela to purchase American agricultural products, as well as medicines, medical devices and equipment produced in the United States. According to the president, these items will also be used to “improve Venezuela’s electrical grid and energy facilities.”
According to Trump, Venezuela “is committing to do business with the United States of America as its main partner”, which he classified as “a wise choice” and “beneficial for both Venezuelans and Americans”.
The announcement comes a day after Trump declared that Venezuela’s interim government, led by Delcy Rodríguez after the capture of Nicolás Maduro by American forces, agreed to deliver between 30 and 50 million barrels of oil to the United States. According to the president, this oil, including that which was under sanctions, will be sold at market price, with the resources under the control of the American government.
According to Trump, the money obtained from the sale of oil will be administered by Washington to ensure that it is used “for the benefit of the people of Venezuela and the United States.” The president also informed that he ordered the Secretary of Energy, Chris Wright, to immediately execute the plan, with the transportation of oil by tankers to American ports.
This Wednesday, state-owned Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) confirmed that it is in negotiations with the United States for the sale of volumes of crude oil. According to a statement from the company, the process takes place under “commercial criteria, with legality, transparency and mutual benefit between the parties”.
