A tornado preliminarily classified as F2 hit São José dos Pinhais, in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba, late this Saturday afternoon (10). The phenomenon caused damage to approximately 250 residences, mainly in the regions of Guatupê and Borda do Campo.
Confirmation of the tornado was made by the Paraná Environmental Technology and Monitoring System, Simepar, based on meteorological analyses, images and technical data. The final classification still undergoes additional evaluations by the competent bodies.
According to a preliminary survey by São José dos Pinhais City Hall, a family was left homeless and is sheltering in a relative’s house. Two people suffered minor injuries, were treated by emergency teams and released.
Service and damage recorded
In addition to the roofing, tree falls and occasional structural damage were recorded on roads in the affected region. From the first moments after the phenomenon, teams from the Civil Defense and various municipal departments were mobilized for emergency assistance, initial inspections and guidance to the population.
The City Hall also distributed tarpaulins to families with roofless houses, guaranteeing temporary protection for the affected homes.
Inspections continue this Sunday
This Sunday (11), teams continue on the streets carrying out technical inspections to assess structural risks and define new safety measures for residents. A Command Post was installed in the Guatupê Regional Administration, centralizing the coordination of operations.
The City of São José dos Pinhais reported that it is continuously monitoring the situation and has teams on standby, monitoring the impacts of the tornado and providing support to the affected population.
