The United States has approved a potential sale of up to 1.8 billion US dollars, which gives Denmark the opportunity to acquire up to three maritime patrol aircraft of the type P-8A Poseidon, produced by Boeing.

The approval was announced by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) and includes not only the aircraft, but also a comprehensive package of sensors, electronic systems, training and logistical support.
Among the equipment included are AN/APY-10 radars, MX-20HD electro-optical systems, missile warning sensors, defensive protection packages, advanced navigation systems with protection against interference, and electronic warfare management solutions. The agreement also includes technical and operational support from the US government and contracted companies for up to two years after delivery.
According to Washington, the potential acquisition will strengthen Denmark’s maritime surveillance capabilities and increase interoperability with NATO. If the deal goes through, the P-8A will further consolidate its position as NATO’s primary maritime patrol platform and fill a strategic void in Northern Europe in line with the increasing focus on security in the Baltic Sea and North Atlantic.
