In some cases, the catalytic converter itself is simply defective or clogged, which is more common on high-mileage vehicles. When the exhaust flow is restricted, heat builds up quickly and the red-hot metal becomes the visible symptom of this restriction.

However, it is important to emphasize that replacing the catalytic converter without addressing the underlying cause – such as ignition or fuel delivery problems – often leads to repeat failure. That’s why it’s essential to work with your mechanic to assess what’s causing the problem before replacing the exhaust system.
