Survey reveals that the price of school supplies can vary by up to 276% in stationery stores in São Paulo. The research carried out by Consumer Protection and Defense Program (Procon) of São Paulo, was announced this Friday (02).
Procon analyzed the price of 134 items that are usually included in school supply lists, such as sharpeners, erasers, notebooks, ballpoint pens, crayons, glue, colored pencils, black pencils, bond paper, rulers and scissors.
A ballpoint pen, for example, can be found for R$1.30 in the North Zone of the city. The same pen, in the center, cost R$4.90. A difference of R$3.60 or 276.9%.
In Ribeirão Preto, in the interior of São Paulo, the price of a sharpener can vary by 196%, costing between R$3.20 and R$9.50.
The research was carried out in nine commercial establishments distributed throughout all regions of the capital of São Paulo, in Baixada Santista and in the cities of Bauru, Campinas, Presidente Prudente, Ribeirão Preto, São José do Rio Preto, São José dos Campos and Sorocaba.
