An Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries plane is missing after losing contact with the control tower during a flight from Yogyakarta to Makassar, this Saturday (17). According to local press, the aircraft was carrying around 11 people and was piloted by Captain Andy Dahananto. According to Doni Ismanto, the ministry’s special advisor for Public Relations and Social Communication, among the passengers were employees from the ministry. An aviation portal reported that residents of the Mount Lapiau region in Leang-Leang reported hearing an explosion and then seeing smoke on the mountainside. The area coincides with the point where the aircraft made last contact. Rescue teams are assessing the possibility that the plane crashed in the Bantimurung Bulusaraung National Park area on Mount Bulusaraung. The search has already begun, but is being hampered by fog and rain, according to rescuers. The aircraft manufacturer, ATR, said in a statement that it is aware of the case. “Our first thoughts are with everyone affected by the accident. ATR experts are fully committed to supporting the investigation led by Indonesian authorities,” the company said. See the videos that are trending on g1 *This report is being updated
