Nobel denies the possibility of awarding the Peace Prize to Trump

The Norwegian Nobel Institute has stated that it cannot pass on, divide or withdraw the Nobel Peace Prize from its winner. The demonstration took place following statements by Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado. She commented on the possibility of presenting the 2025 award to the President of the United States, Donald Trump.

In a statement, the institution highlighted that the awarding of a Nobel Prize is irrevocable and definitive. As established by the statutes of the Nobel Foundation, there are no mechanisms for appealing or changing the decision.

The institute also highlighted that the committees responsible for the award do not comment on attitudes or statements made by the laureates after the award was announced.

“Once announced, the Norwegian Nobel Committee and the Norwegian Nobel Institute cannot revoke, share or transfer the Nobel Prize to someone else,” the institutions said on Friday. According to the note, the decision “is final and valid forever”.

Suggestion involving Trump leads Nobel to speak out

Machado’s statements were made in an interview with presenter Sean Hannity, from Fox Newson Monday. In the conversation, she stated that presenting the award to Trump could represent a gesture of gratitude from the Venezuelan people for the removal of President Nicolás Maduro. The United States captured the former Venezuelan dictator.

Trump, who has expressed interest in receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for years and often associates this ambition with diplomatic initiatives, said he would be honored to accept it if Machado formalizes the offer during a meeting scheduled for next week in Washington.

Authorities aligned with Maduro prevented María Corina Machado, a former deputy of the National Assembly, from running in Venezuela’s 2024 general elections. She supported a replacement candidate, widely considered to have won the election, although the current president declared himself victorious. Independent audits of the polls highlighted irregularities in the official results.
