María Corina proclaims the beginning of the democratic transition in Venezuela

In a statement released this Saturday (03), the leader of the Venezuelan opposition and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, María Corina Machado, stated that Venezuela has officially entered a phase of democratic transition. The statement comes just hours after the United States government confirmed the capture of President Nicolás Maduro during a large-scale military operation in Caracas.

In the message published on his social networks and forwarded to the international press, Machado declared that “the time has come for popular sovereignty and national sovereignty to return to govern Venezuela”. According to her, the North American action was a direct consequence of Maduro’s refusal to accept a negotiated and peaceful exit from power. “The United States government enforced the law,” he said.

Faced with the power vacuum, the opposition announced an immediate strategy: María Corina Machado called on Venezuelan institutions and the international community to recognize Edmundo González Urrutia as the country’s legitimate president.

The leader also made a direct appeal to the National Armed Forces, asking officers and troops to recognize González as the new Commander-in-Chief. The objective, according to her, is to avoid internal clashes and ensure the maintenance of public order during the political transition process.
