The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, stated this Saturday (3) that the “Venezuelan people are free from the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro” and that there are reasons to celebrate the moment. In a publication on the social network X, the French leader did not condemn the United States’ actions in the military offensive against Venezuela.
In the post, Macron accused Maduro of causing “serious damage to the dignity of his own people” by remaining in power and restricting fundamental freedoms. According to him, the next step must be a “peaceful, democratic and respectful transition to the popular will”.
The French president also expressed support for Edmundo González Urrutia, elected in 2024, saying he hopes he will lead the transition process as quickly as possible.
Macron added that he maintains dialogue with French partners in Venezuela and guaranteed that the European country remains mobilized and attentive, especially to ensure the protection of French citizens amid the uncertain scenario.
Earlier, however, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot adopted a more cautious tone when he stated that the United States attack contradicts the principle of non-use of force, one of the pillars of international law. In a publication in X, he highlighted that “no lasting political solution can be imposed from outside” and that it is up to sovereign peoples to decide their own future.
