Lithuania has approved the purchase of 100 CV90 MkIV infantry fighting vehicles as part of a joint procurement program with five other NATO countries.

The project foresees the signing of the main contract in early 2026, with the first deliveries planned for 2028, as part of efforts to modernize the Lithuanian Land Forces.

In addition to the purchase, the agreement provides for the localization of component production and maintenance of the vehicles on Lithuanian territory. According to the State Defense Council, the reliability of delivery schedules and the effective implementation of industrial cooperation will be decisive factors for the country’s continued involvement in the multinational program, in which Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia and the Netherlands also participate.

The CV90 MkIV, produced by BAE Systems Hägglunds, offers enhanced protection, advanced command and control systems and the ability to integrate national technologies. The adoption of a common platform among NATO allies is expected to increase interoperability, facilitate joint training and reduce logistics costs, thereby strengthening operational readiness on the alliance’s eastern flank.
