Germany has started the path to series production of the TAURUS NEO missile by signing a contract between the Bundeswehr and TAURUS Systems GmbH, MBDA’s joint venture with Saab.

The agreement establishes the industrial bases to manufacture, on German territory, the modernized version of the weapon, seen as a key piece in rebuilding the country’s long-range attack capacity.

According to MBDA, the TAURUS NEO will have a range of more than 500 kilometers, low observability capabilities and guidance systems capable of penetrating modern air defenses. These characteristics would allow the German Air Force to engage fixed targets from safer positions, out of reach of adversary anti-aircraft systems, reducing operational risks.

The program already has initial technological development work starting at the end of 2024, with the aim of accelerating deliveries when production begins. The advancement of TAURUS NEO occurs in parallel with the expansion of MBDA’s industrial capacity, which plans to invest €2.4 billion between 2025 and 2029 and double its missile production in the recent period.
