German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said this Tuesday (13) that Iran’s leadership is in its “last days”, given the widespread protests it is facing.
The demonstrations in Iran have evolved from complaints about severe economic hardship to calls for the ouster of the clergy in the Islamic Republic.
“When a regime can only maintain power through violence, then it is effectively at an end. The population is now rising up against that regime,” said the chancellor.
Merz said Germany was in close contact with the United States and other European governments over the situation in Iran and urged Tehran to end its deadly crackdown on protesters. He did not comment on Germany’s trade relations with Iran.
