The executive secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, Manoel Carlos de Almeida Neto, was appointed by President Lula to head the department on an interim basis in place of Ricardo Lewandowski.
The appointment was published in the Official Gazette of the Unionthis Friday (09).
Lewandowski delivered, on Thursday (8), a letter with resignation to Lula. He took office in February 2024 and claimed that the decision to leave had personal and family motivations.
Interim minister Manoel Carlos de Almeida Neto was previously secretary general of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and, in 2014, had his name approved to occupy the position of secretary general of the Court.
Almeida Neto held the position of legal director at Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) for eight years. In the academic field, he was a professor and pursued post-doctorate and doctorate in law at the University of São Paulo (USP).
