This Tuesday (06), the Federal Police (PF) confirmed that the passport of retired general Augusto Heleno was seized and in the custody of the International Security Office (GSI).
The confirmation is contained in a letter sent to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, signed by a clerk from the PF Judicial Police Processing Secretariat. In the text, the institution informs that passport number FV045062 has been registered as material seized by the responsible division since February 8, 2024.
The clarification puts an end to contradictory versions between the Federal Police and the general’s defense. In a previous communication to the STF, the PF had informed that one of Augusto Heleno’s passports was not included in the submission form of materials sent to the Court, despite all of the soldier’s documents having a canceled or suspended status in the National Passport System (Sinpa).
Heleno’s defense, in turn, has always contested this information. The lawyers stated that the aforementioned passport was collected during searches carried out at the general’s addresses in February 2024, in the context of Operation Tempus Veritatis. According to the legal team, there is no pending issue, as all requested material was delivered to the police authority at the time of the investigation.
General Augusto Heleno was sentenced by the STF to 18 years and 11 months in prison for participating in the undemocratic acts of January 8, 2023. However, due to a report proving that he has Alzheimer’s, he was granted a humanitarian prison.
