The United States’ military action in Venezuela caused strong international repercussions, especially among Latin American countries. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel harshly condemned the offensive and classified the attack as criminal. In an official statement, he stated that the so-called Zone of Peace in the region was being violently attacked and accused the United States of promoting state terrorism against the Venezuelan people and Latin America.
In Argentina, President Javier Milei spoke briefly on social media. Without commenting directly on the offensive, Milei only published the political slogan “Viva la libertad, carajo”.
The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, reported that the Colombian government called an emergency meeting of the National Security Council and began mobilizing public forces on the border with Venezuela, given the possibility of an intense flow of refugees. Petro declared that Colombia repudiates aggression against Venezuelan and Latin American sovereignty and defended the principle of self-determination of peoples, highlighting that conflicts must be resolved peacefully, through dialogue.
In Ecuador, President Daniel Noboa adopted a harsher tone when speaking about the episode. He stated that groups linked to Chavismo and drug trafficking would be held responsible and that their networks would end up dismantled across the continent. Noboa also declared support for the Venezuelan opposition and stated that Ecuador stands as an ally of the Venezuelan people.
Chilean President Gabriel Boric condemned the United States’ military action. In an official note, the Chilean government expressed concern about the escalation of the conflict and reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of International Law, such as the prohibition of the use of force, non-intervention and respect for the territorial integrity of States. Boric defended that the Venezuelan crisis be resolved through dialogue and multilateralism, rejecting violence and foreign interference.
