A woman who bought a new car a few months ago said her dealer refused to cover the cost of problems that arose during an oil change.
This case is a nurse Grace Jenkinswas shared in a video posted on his TikTok account. In the video, she begins by saying she feels “deceived” by the dealer.
“I bought this car from you guys in July. Guys, one of your mechanics broke a part, and now they say my only option is to buy another car from you,” Jenkins said.
She emphasized that there were no problems with the car before the oil change. After taking the car to the dealer for service, I picked it up and drove it home.
Jenkins then discovered that the car was leaking oil and that a puddle of oil had begun to form on the garage floor. So I decided to go back to the dealer to check the problem.
At the dealership, mechanics said the problem was “temporarily fixed.” “It’s interesting that you would say that about a car you just bought in July,” Jenkins added.
Jenkins returned home, but the oil leak continued. On her third visit, she explained to the mechanics that she could leave the car until the problem was completely resolved.
However, later that day, I received a call from the dealer and was informed that the part was “totally damaged” and repairs were not covered under warranty.
This explanation confused Jenkins. Manufacturer warranties typically cover defects in materials or workmanship, but they typically exclude damage due to improper service or external factors, which is clearly outlined in most new car warranty guides.
It should be emphasized that if the dealer damages the vehicle during service, liability generally falls on the dealer, not the manufacturer’s warranty. In these cases, repairs may be covered by the dealer’s insurance or internal policy, and the cost is not passed on to the customer.
But what offended Jenkins most was not the warranty denial itself, but the response that followed. According to her, the service representative suggested she talk to the sales department about purchasing a new car.
“So, what do you think? Should I buy a car from them again? Help! What should I do?” Jenkins wrote in the caption of the video. In the comments, other Internet users left their opinions about this incident.
“Absolutely not! They wrecked my car so tell them to pay for the repairs and get a free extended warranty! Same thing happened to my husband’s pickup truck, they ended up replacing the engine and gave me a free replacement during the repair and an extended warranty,” said one TikTok user.
“Pro tip: Avoid dealers and take your car to a small repair shop. Dealers are hungry for money and the small companies know a lot better than these guys,” claimed another user.
