LONDON, December 23, 2025 — Auction platform Collecting Cars has put the last Land Rover Defender Heritage Edition ever produced up for sale.

The Heritage Edition was created to celebrate the legacy of the HUE 166 — the first Land Rover Series I pre-production model from 1947 — and symbolized the final chapter of the classic Defender.

Only 400 examples were allocated in the UK, making the model one of the most sought-after collector’s items worldwide. In 2023, an example with delivery kilometers was sold for a six-figure sum, further underlining the appeal of this historical chapter.

The vehicle now up for auction is a Defender 90 Heritage Edition, painted in iconic Grasmere Metallic Green with an Alaska White roof and only 4,597 miles since 2016.

The design retains all the elements that characterize the special edition: heritage-style grille and headlight frames, body-colored steel wheels, silver front bumper with black covers, clear indicators and Indus Silver door hinges.

Aluminum emblems and the historic HUE 166 graphics on the fenders complete the ensemble inspired by the past.

Inside, the Defender combines classic robustness with a touch of sophistication. There’s a perforated leather steering wheel, covered gearshift and handbrake levers, shiny aluminum details on the air vents and doors, and Almond Resolve fabric seats with historic logos and HUE 166 labels. Practical elements such as rubber mats and padded storage boxes underline the functional character of the model.

Manufactured on January 29, 2016, the Defender’s official final production day, this example is confirmed as the last Heritage Edition model to leave the factory.

With only one private owner since new acquisition, the vehicle remains completely original and in excellent condition, accompanied by a full documentation folder confirming provenance and significance, including reports and specialist articles.

Commenting on the auction, Edward Lovett, Founder of Collecting Cars, highlighted that special editions of the Defender are generating constant interest worldwide as they capture the essence of the classic model in factory specification.

In his opinion: “As the final vehicle to roll off the production line, this is literally the ultimate Defender Heritage and represents a unique opportunity in the market.”

Offers are from the UK but international bidding is open, making the low-mileage, single-owner Defender 90 Heritage Edition a rare opportunity for collectors seeking one of the most iconic modern Land Rover models.

The seven-day auction ends on December 30th exclusively on the platform Collecting Cars.
