The President of the United States, Donald Trump, and the dictator of Russia, Vladimir Putin, spoke again by phone this Thursday (16), and the American president announced that both will meet soon in Budapest, Hungary.
“At the end of the call, we agreed that there will be a meeting of our high-level advisors next week. The initial United States meetings will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, along with several other individuals to be designated. The location of the meeting is yet to be determined,” Trump wrote on the Truth Social network.
“President Putin and I will then meet at a prearranged location, Budapest, Hungary, to see if we can bring an end to this ‘inglorious’ war between Russia and Ukraine. The President [ucraniano, Volodymyr] Zelensky and I will meet tomorrow in the Oval Office [da Casa Branca]where we will discuss my conversation with President Putin and much more,” added the American president.
In the post, Trump said that Putin congratulated him on the agreement brokered by the United States to ceasefire in the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip and that he believes that this commitment will help in talks to end the war in Ukraine, which began in February 2022 with the invasion of Russian forces.
Trump and Putin met in Alaska in August and called the conversation “productive” but did not announce a ceasefire.
Three days later, the American president held a meeting at the White House with Zelensky and European and NATO leaders, in which future security guarantees for Ukraine were discussed, and announced that he would schedule a meeting between the Ukrainian leader and the Russian dictator. However, such a meeting has not yet taken place due to resistance from the Kremlin.
Angered by Moscow’s lack of response, the Trump administration has been threatening to expand sanctions and take other measures against Russia.
