The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) asked this Wednesday (15) that the Federal Supreme Court (STF) reopen investigations into the alleged interference of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in the Federal Police (PF) during his administration.
The case was opened in Court after the then Minister of Justice and current senator Sergio Moro (União-PR) pointed out Bolsonaro’s improper actions. The former president accused Moro of a slanderous accusation. After concluding that there was no evidence of a crime, the PF closed the investigation. The former attorney general of the Republic, Augusto Aras, asked for the case to be closed.
The current PGR, Paulo Gonet, understands that the PF must assess whether there is any connection between the facts pointed out by Moro. According to him, it is necessary to “check more thoroughly whether there was actually interference or attempted interference in the investigations highlighted in the dialogues and in the ex-Minister’s testimony, through the use of the State structure and the clandestine obtaining of sensitive data”.
When announcing his departure from the government, on April 24, 2020, Moro stated that Bolsonaro tried to interfere politically in the work of the Federal Police and in investigations related to family members. The current senator judged that the then president dismissed the former PF general director Maurício Valeixo to have access to information from an investigation into his own family.
