BandNews TV commentator, Paulo Rabello de Castro, commented on the postponement of the vote on the Budget Guidelines Law. The meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday (21)
He stated that the federal government has promoted continuous growth in social spending since the 2000s, outpacing the pace of the economy itself. According to him, Brazil is on its way to becoming “a country of those on welfare”, with more families receiving benefits than workers with a formal contract in several states.
Rabello also pointed out that the expansion of social programs would be used as a political instrument with a focus on the 2026 presidential election. For him, it is urgent to discuss budget cuts and decide whether the adjustments should fall on parliamentary amendments or on social spending, at the risk of compromising the country’s fiscal sustainability.
