The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, said, this Tuesday (14), that the blackout that affected 13 states and the Federal District during the night did not occur due to a “lack of energy”.
According to Silveira, the cause was an electrical failure and 100% of the states had their supply restored. The statement was made on the program “Good morning, Minister”.
“It’s important that the population understands what’s happening right now. It’s not a lack of energy. It’s a problem in the infrastructure that transmits the energy. When we talk about blackouts, we always remember those sad episodes in 2001 and 2021 that, in fact, happened due to a lack of energy and a lack of planning. Not today. Today, we have a lot of energy.”
During the interview, the minister also highlighted that the Brazilian transmission system was reinforced through the contracting of 70 billion transmission lines.
“We are carrying out works throughout the Brazilian Northeast for the load center, which is the Southeast. And we also connect Manaus to Boa Vista. We have more energy security” he highlighted.
