This Monday (13), Lula began dismissing appointments made by Centrão. The action is a direct response to the overturn of the provisional measure that would replace the IOF increase.
The dismissals affect strategic second-tier positions and involve strong allies such as the president of the PP, Ciro Nogueira, and deputies from the PSD, which is chaired by Gilberto Kassab. The cuts were carried out in bodies such as Caixa Econômica Federal, the Institute of International Historical and Artistic Heritage (Iphan), the Companhia dos Vales do Rio São Francisco and Parnaíba (Codevasf), the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (Dnit) and superintendences linked to the Ministry of Agriculture.
Despite the changes, Caixa’s presidency, occupied by Arthur Lira, will be maintained. The articulation for the dismissals came from the Minister of Institutional Relations, Gleisi Hoffmann, who took the proposal directly to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The movement signals a tightening of the government’s relationship with Congress and, especially, with the parties that make up the base, but that have adopted independent stances in votes considered strategic by the Planalto.
