Israel signs first phase of Peace Plan for Gaza

by Marcelo Moreira

This Thursday (9), the Israeli government approved the first phase of the Peace Plan for Gaza, which had previously been accepted by Hamas. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after long meetings with members of the cabinet and representatives of the United States.

In a brief statement, Netanyahu thanked American negotiators for their efforts in brokering the agreement. The plan calls for the release of all hostages held in the Gaza Strip and establishes an immediate ceasefire in the region.

As part of the understanding, Israel will allow the entry of hundreds of trucks with humanitarian aid, in addition to promoting the progressive withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza territory. It only takes 24 hours for them to be withdrawn. The expectation is that the return of the hostages will take place at the beginning of next week.

Earlier, Hamas had already signed the agreement and declared a ceasefire in the war in Gaza.
