by Marcelo Moreira

The 2025 Nobel Prize for Literature was won by Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai this Thursday (9). According to the announcement from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, Krasznahorkai was chosen “for his convincing and visionary work which, in the midst of apocalyptic terror, reaffirms the power of art”.

In addition to the medal and diploma, the writer will receive a substantial sum of money, around 11 million Swedish kronor (equivalent to R$6.2 million).

The award ceremony is scheduled for December 10th, as is the case every year, on the anniversary of the death of Swedish chemist Alfred Nobel (1833-1896).

Born in 1954, in Gyula, Hungary, László Krasznahorkai is known for dystopian novels, with a philosophical tone, such as the works “Satantango” and “Melancholy of resistance”.
