Man runs in the US after almost 50 years in the death corridor

The victim was 34 when she was killed and was the wife of a bank executive. The execution began at 18h, for local time, according to prison officials. The Associated Press reported that Jordan was placed on a stretcher and took a deep breath a few times before it was still. When he had a chance to make a final statement, he said, “First, I would like to thank everyone for a human way to do this. I want to apologize to the victim’s family.” He also thanked the lawyers and his wife, and asked for forgiveness. His last words were: “We see each other on the other side, all of you.” His wife, Marsha Jordan, watched the execution, with the lawyer, Krissy Nobile, and the spiritual counselor, Reverend Tim Murphy. This was the first execution at Mississippi in two and a half years. It was also the second this week in the United States. On Tuesday (24), Thomas Gudinas, 51, was executed in Florida. Since the beginning of 2025, the country has made 24 executions, mostly by lethal injection. Three were performed by nitrogen inhalation, a method for the first time in Alabama in 2024, and considered by UN experts a “torture”. Two other executions took place by shooting in South Carolina. Currently 23 of the 50 American states have abolished the death penalty. Another three – California, Oregon and Pennsylvania – maintain a moratorium in the executions.
