France has made official the purchase of five Falcon 2000 ALBATROS planes from Dassault Aviation to strengthen the AVSIMAR program, dedicated to surveillance and maritime intervention.
The order, placed by the French Agency for supplies and defense technology (DGA) in September 2025, brings to twelve the total number of the units planned, of which seven already acquired in 2020.
Based on the Jet Executive Falcon 2000LXS, the Albatros model has been adapted for military and safety missions, including multifunction radar, high precision optical tower, observation windows, research and rescue kit (SAR) and advanced communication systems. With an autonomy of 4,000 nautical miles and the ability to operate on demanding slopes, the plane was developed in collaboration with Naval Group, Safran and Thales, tested in Istres and converted to the Mérignac plant.
According to Dassault, France – which has the second largest exclusive economic area in the world – is at the forefront of using this type of aircraft for missions that include the contrast to pollution, fishing control, borders surveillance and research and rescue operations.
The manufacturer also underlines its tradition in adapting the Falcon Jet to military and civil functions, representing about 10% of the global fleet on duty.
