United States President Donald Trump authorized on Saturday (4) the sending of 300 National Guard soldiers to the city of Chicago, Illinois, with the aim of containing what he classified as a “wave of crime” out of control. Chicago – along with other cities such as Washington and Los Angeles, governed by Democrats – has faced growing protests against the federal government’s immigration policy.
The Trump Administration Movement has been hours after immigration service authorities (ICE) reported clashes with Chicago protesters – a city ruled by Democrats almost a century ago. Yesterday afternoon, according to authorities, an “armed woman” was shot during the demonstrations.
“Today in Chicago, members of our courageous police force have been attacked – collided and cornered by ten vehicles, including a striker with a semi -automatic weapon,” said National Security Department Secretary Kristi Noem on social networks. “I’m sending more special operations to control the scene. Reinforcements are on the way. If you find a policeman today, thank him,” he added.
The sending of National Guard troops was harshly criticized by local authorities. Illinois governor, Democrat JB Pritzker, said Trump was “trying to make a crisis.” “Well, we didn’t need them before they appeared, and what they should do is allow us to work with the FBI, ATF, Dea, who are civil police and understand how to reach and eliminate the bandits,” added the governor.
Also on Saturday, a district judge had already issued a temporary restriction order for Trump to be prevented from sending 200 National Guard soldiers to the city of Portland, with the same justification as the order was restored in the largest city in the state of Oregon, whose pro-immigration protests have also won the news in recent weeks.
