After being detained at the Mixed Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), which investigates possible frauds in the granting of benefits, the president of the National Confederation of Family Farmers and Rural Family Entrepreneurs (Conofer), Carlos Roberto Ferreira Lopes, paid bail and was released at dawn on Tuesday (30).
The request for arrest was given by the chairman of the committee, Carlos Viana, after the members of the board request five times for Carlos to be arrested. Lopes was arrested on charges of lying during his statement. He was summoned as a witness and did not present preventive habeas corpus to protect him from speaking to the commission or being arrested.
According to CPMI rapporteur, Deputy Alfredo Gaspar, Carlos Roberto would be one of the articulators of fraud who diverted resources from retirees and pensioners. Conofer is one of the investigated associations. According to the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU), the entity has raised almost R $ 700 million associative discounts since 2019.
