The federal government began on Monday (29) the payment of compensation for moral damage to families of Brazilian children with permanent disabilities caused by congenital syndrome linked to Zika virus during pregnancy.
Each family will receive $ 50,000 in a single installment. The deposit will be made in the same bank account where the special pension of a minimum wage is already falling.
The benefit is valid for children born between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2019. Those who already receive the pension need not submit documents or redo the request.
If the family received amounts by court decision for the same reason, it should choose only one benefit. The law does not allow to accumulate compensation.
According to the Ministry of Health, 1,828 children were identified with congenital Zika congenital syndrome in Brazil between 2015 and 2023.
