Video scenes are collapse in Morocco, not an earthquake in Afghanistan G1 circulates on social networks the video of a collapsing building. According to publications that shared the content, the scene allegedly shows a collapse caused by an earthquake that hit Afghanistan on August 31. It’s #fake. Fake G1 Seal 🛑 What does the publication say? The content has been circulating on Telegram since September 1st. The message says: “A strong #Tremoto of magnitude 6.0 reached east Afghanistan, killing more than 810 people and injuring more than 3,000. The earthquake rocked whole villages in Kunar province, while rescue teams struggle to reach survivors due to the scarcity of resources and difficult conditions.” The caption omits that the scene occurred in Morocco – not in Afghanistan (see below). The post displays a video, recorded at night, of a yellow building collapsing. Screams are heard in the background, while the construction structure collapses. On the night of August 31 (Brasília time), Afghanistan registered a 6.0 earthquake on the Richter scale, which killed more than 1,000 people and left 3,000 injured. ⚠️ Why is the post liar? Although the video is real – not something created with artificial intelligence (IA) – the post lies in saying that the scene occurred in Afghanistan. In fact, it shows the collapse of a building in Morocco in August 2020, which was not related to any seismic shake. The fact or fake used the Invid platform to fragment the video into various frames (static images). Then she did a reverse search for these “photos” on Google Lens, a tool that allows you to find the source of materials on the internet by pointing older publications in which they appeared. The research led to a record of the scene published on Youtube on August 6, 2020 – that is, more than 5 years before the earthquake in Afghanistan. The title reveals that the collapse of the building took place in Casablanca, the largest Moroccan city, with no relationship with a seismic event: “collapse of a house in Sbata, Derb Moulay Bouchaiib, 4, Casablanca”. In Casablanca, the lack of maintenance and old buildings with committed structures are a chronic problem, often associated with fatal collapse. According to the local website Morocco World News, the most recent case occurred on March 20, when a surveyed suddenly and left four people injured.
