Five tips for attending the Mexico Grand Prix
The Mexico GP is one of Formula 1’s most colourful and atmospheric events – high altitude, a passionate crowd, and the iconic Foro Sol stadium section create a weekend unlike any other. But Mexico City can be overwhelming if you don’t plan smart. Here are five tips to make the most of your trip.
Skip the rental car – use taxis or apps
Driving in Mexico City isn’t for the faint-hearted: traffic is chaotic, roads are confusing, and parking near the circuit is almost impossible. Save yourself the stress – taxis and ride-hailing apps like Uber work well and are inexpensive compared to Europe. Just be prepared for traffic around race weekend, and leave early.

Soak up the atmosphere in Foro Sol
The stadium section is what makes the Mexico GP unique. Even if you’re not seated there, make time to visit – the noise, the colours, and the post-race podium ceremony inside a packed stadium are unforgettable. It feels more like a festival than a grandstand, with music, singing, and thousands of fans creating an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in F1. That fan experience is a big reason why the Mexico GP has repeatedly won the prize for “Best Promoted Grand Prix.” It’s one of the most iconic experiences on the F1 calendar. And for 2025, there’s up to 20% off Friday and Saturday tickets in Foro Sol grandstands — while stocks last.
Prepare for the altitude
At 2,285m above sea level, Mexico City’s thin air affects not just the engines but the people too. You may feel more tired than usual, especially if you’re walking long distances or standing in the sun. Stay hydrated, take it easy the first day, and wear sunscreen – the thinner atmosphere means stronger UV exposure.
Stay safe – choose your hotel wisely
Mexico City is vast, vibrant, and full of contrasts. Stick to safe, central neighbourhoods like Polanco, Condesa, or Roma for your accommodation. Avoid carrying expensive items such as cameras, jewellery, or large amounts of cash, especially when moving around the city. Use hotel safes where possible, and always stay alert in crowded areas.

Enjoy the city – and its food
Mexico City is worth exploring before or after the GP. The historic centre, Chapultepec Park, and world-class museums are all within reach. The food is spectacular too – from tacos al pastor on the street to fine dining, it’s a highlight of the trip. But again, stick to well-known restaurants and tourist-friendly spots. And don’t bring valuables when you’re exploring.
