by Marcelo Moreira

The Donald Trump government has until Tuesday (30) to avoid the stoppage of federal services in the face of the impasse in Congress to approve the next fiscal year budget. The US President meets on Monday (29) with four bipartisan leaders to discuss the matter.

Republicans try to convince Democrats to agree with a short -term bill to gain time and avoid the so -called Shutdown. The proposal has already passed the House and needs the support of at least seven Democrats in the Senate. The opposition insists that the 2026 budget needs to include more health subsidies. President Donald Trump threatened to promote mass layoffs from federal employees if the government is paralyzed for lack of budget.

In 2018, the United States faced the largest shutdown in history for 34 days. As a result, about 800,000 federal employees were affected, and many were on unpaid license or had to work without receiving salary. Non -essential government services were interrupted or operated with limited capacity, affecting areas such as airport security, national parks and federal courts.
