India has officially joined the closed circle of countries with railway ballistic missile technology. Successful testing of the Agni-Prime Rocket, launched on September 24, 2025, is a significant strategic advance in India’s defense.

The rocket was jointly developed by the DRDO (defense research and development organization) and the strategic forces command and was tested with a “full operation scenario”, thus increasing the reliability of India’s nuclear deterrence.

The most important advantage of rail systems is survival. India’s extensive railway network, which has more than 60,000 km long and has many tunnels, takes advantage of the rockets easy to move and hide, making it extremely difficult to target and destroy the enemy.

The Agni-Prime Rocket, which has a range of up to 2000 km, is capable of reaching the entire Pakistan area and strategic destinations in Southwest China, two neighboring countries with which India has geopolitical tensions and territorial disputes.

Rail mobility is a relatively cheap and extremely effective way to protect nuclear assets, changing strategic calculations and power balance in South Asia.
