The Russian Ministry of Defense published, on September 27, a video highlighting the training of the crews of the latest T-90m Tanks “Proryv”, employed by the “Center” troop grouping.

The teams of the armored have performed the fire advance technique, a maneuver that combines offensive movement and successive shots at simulated targets, and also trained the use of covert shot positions, taking advantage of ground elements and fortifications to increase protection and response capacity.

Considered the most advanced tank in service in the Russian army, the T-90M is a modernized version of the T-90, equipped with Relikt reactive shielding, updated fire control system, active protection against 125 mm anti-tanker missiles capable of firing different types of ammunition, including guided missiles.

However, despite its technological improvements, the T-90M has suffered high rates of battlefield losses, especially in the face of massive use of Kamikaze drones and Ukrainian FPV drones. Independent reports and open intelligence analyzes point out that dozens of units have already been destroyed or severely damaged by unmanned air attacks, revealing vulnerability even of the most modern tanks against the drone war.

Strategic context

Military analysts interpret recent training as an attempt to increase crew survival and adapt the use of armored to current reality, where the unmanned air threat has become one of the main challenges for mechanized forces.
