Polar bears occupy ancient Soviet station in the Arctic Polar bears have taken over a Soviet research station disabled on a small island in the far northeast of Russia. The images were recorded by Vadim Makhoorov travel blogger, who used a drone to film the animals circulating among the abandoned buildings of Kolyuchin Island in the Sea of Chukchi during the late Arctic Summer. In one scenes, a bear tries to attack the drone. Others appear curiously, putting their heads out of the buildings. “They see these houses like shelter against the wind and the rain,” Makhorov told Reuters. “Overall, they seem to adapt well to the place.” The research station was abandoned over three decades, shortly after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
