Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plane changed his route to the United States on Thursday, where the UN General Assembly takes place, to possibly avoid crossing countries that could comply with the arrest warrant issued against him by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged war crimes.
The aircraft, according to EFE Agency identified on the flight tracking site Flightradar24he left at dawn at Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv, bound for New York.
According to the recorded trajectory, the flight briefly passed through the Greece and Italy airspace, but completely avoided French and Spanish, increasing the route by more than 600 kilometers.
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz He stated that this route is first used, noting that in the six trips prior to the United States the government plane had flew over Greece, Italy and France “without changes.”
This change of route occurs in a tense diplomatic context, after the recognition of the state of Palestine by European countries, including France and Spain, and the arrest warrant.
In November 2024, the ICC issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, as main responsible for the alleged practice of war crimes and humanity in Gaza.
Netanyahu is also expected to visit this trip to the White House and meets President Donald Trump next week.
The Israeli Premier will speak on the UN on Friday (26), days after an independent UN committee accuses the country as a “genocide”.
