Venezuela Foreign Minister Yván Gil accused on Friday (26) US President Donald Trump of “attacked” the United Nations Letter in the speech that the American agent gave at the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday (23).
According to the EFE agency, Gil made the charge during a meeting of the so -called group of friends in defense of the United Nations Letter in New York, a meeting that was broadcast by the Venezuelan state channel VTV.
“In the face of the United Nations General Assembly, he mocked all of the rules established 80 years ago for coexistence in the international community,” he said, citing the UN foundation document.
“Countries were threatened, there was a threat of use of force, (…) and new economic sanctions were also threatened against countries, in violation of the letter. All types of criminal practices that violate territorial integrity and political independence of free and sovereign nations were validated,” Gil added.
In late August, the Trump government sent eight war ships and a nuclear submarine to the Caribbean Sea near Venezuela, with the aim of preventing drugs to arrive in US territory, an operation that Venezuelan dictatorship considers an “excuse” for military intervention in the South American country.
Days later, the US also sent F-35 fighters to an aerodrome in Puerto Rico for operations against drug cartels in the Caribbean.
Since the beginning of the month, at least four drug vessels have been hit by US military attacks in the Caribbean Sea. In response, Nicolás Maduro’s regime has been conducting military operations and mobilizations and increasing Belicista rhetoric.
On Friday, Gil stated that US action “has no other goal but appropriate Venezuela’s natural resources and” promoting a change of regime. “
In his speech on Tuesday, Trump talked about attacks on vessels in the Caribbean Sea.
“We recently started using the US Armed Forces supreme power to destroy Venezuelan terrorists and traffic nets led by Nicolás Maduro, including all terrorists who smuggle poisonous drugs to the United States. They be warned that we will exterminate them,” he said.
