United States President Donald Trump said on Friday that he is “very upset” with Brazil during a press conference held at the White House. According to him, the Brazilian government “has radically changed to the left”, which is harming the country and motivates the maintenance of the tariff.
“We are very upset with Brazil. We put very high rates because of what they are doing, which is very unhappy. I love the people of Brazil, we have a good relationship with people in Brazil. But the government of Brazil has changed dramatically, was very left, radically to the left.
The American leader did not rule out the possibility of new sanctions to the Brazilian authorities, such as the revocation of visas to the UN General Assembly, which will take place on September 22 in New York. The measure would be another form of retaliation after the imposition of the 50% rate on imported products.
The demonstration takes place at the same week as the trial of former President Jair Bolsonaro and seven other defendants appointed as part of the so-called “crucial core” of the investigated coup plot. Donald Trump has requested the end of the case and has already established restrictions against ministers of the Supreme Federal Court (STF).
