After weeks of uncertainty, the United States Navy received a financial relief from the Senate approval of $ 1.4 billion for the F/A-XX program, sixth-generation naval fighter.

The financing had been temporarily suspended to prioritize the Air Force F-47 NGAD, but now allows the Navy to advance the choice of a winning project, focusing on a fighter fit for aircraft carriers, distinct from the Air Force model.

The Vice Admiral Daniel Cheevercommander of the Naval Air Forces, stressed that the F/A-XX will replace the Super Hornets F/A-18E/F and the Growlers E/A-18Gacting next to the F-35C. He stressed that the aircraft will have a completely focused design for board operations, combining attacking and air superiority capabilities, essential to ensure global maritime control.

The Navy plans to introduce fighter in the 2030s, following the evolution of generations of aircraft from Wednesday to Friday.

The program also provides integration with unmanned platforms, such as the MQ-25 Stinggray, which will refuel in flight and other strategic functions. The initiative represents an expansion of the “sixth generation combat network”, combining manned aircraft and collaborative drones, allowing the navy to maintain air superiority and power projection to emerging threats.
