Taiwan has made images publicly made of an AGM-114 Hellfire rocket system installed on a civilian van, which emphasizes the use of mobile, discreet and rapidly deployable platforms to withstand a possible Chinese amphibian attack.

The video, released by the Ministry of Defense of Taiwan, shows a seemingly ordinary company car equipped with a hidden launch installation and an extendable guidelole that folds over the roof of the vehicle, making it hard to distinguish from regular traffic.

Although the authorities in Taipei have not announced how many of these units are operational or are part of a greater secret program, local military analysts point out that the system is ideal for operations on coastal roads and in urban areas, where it moves quietly until the moment of launch.

The launch installation can be used quickly to attack landing craft, amphibious vehicles and other surface lidges, thanks to integrated electrical and infrared sensors that enable independent detection and acquisition of goals without external data. After the attack, the launch installation is withdrawn and the system returns to camouflage, making enemy detection more difficult.

This initiative follows the Taiwanese defense strategy, which gives priority to mobile, survival-resistant and low-signature systems to withstand superior forces and uses the mountainous site and the high population density of the island.

Experts compare the platform with improvised solutions that have been seen in recent conflicts, such as in Ukraine, where Brimstone rockets were fired from unscarriage trucks against Russian troops. This type of adjustment offers high firepower at low costs and reduced vulnerability for preventive attacks.
