The United States are sending more than 4,000 Marines and military sailors to the waters of Latin America and the Caribbean to fight drug cartels.
The information was conveyed on Friday (15) by CNN, which cited two employees of the Donald Trump Management Defense Department.
The sending of the Amphibian Group of Readiness Iwo Jima and the 22nd Expeditionary Unit of Naval Marines to the Southern Command of the US adds to the allocation of a nuclear -propulsive attack submarine, additional P8 recognition aircraft, several Southcom -guided missile cruiser, as it is called in English.
A third source told CNN that these additional resources were sent to “face threats to US National Security from specially designated narcoterrorist organizations in the region.”
Such reinforcement will be maintained at least for the coming months, the US station learned.
In February, the Trump government classified as terrorist groups six Mexican drug cartels, including the Sinaloa cartel and the Jalisco New Generation cartel (CJNG), as well as the Venezuelan group Tren de Aragua and the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang (MS-13).
The following month, the US Armed Forces sent Freemakers to areas around the Mexico border to support the US Command Border Security Mission and reinforce the presence in the Western Hemisphere.
Last week, The New York Times reported that Trump had signed a directive to start using military drugs against foreign soil cartels, which led Mexico to refute the possibility of entering American troops into his territory.
